Public Domain exploded into the UK’s Hard House scene in 2000 when three young producers from Ayr, Scotland – James Allan, Alistair MacIsaac (who met at an Ultra-Sonic gig) and DJ Mark Sherry sampled the TB 303 patter from a remix of New Order’s ‘Confusion’ that was used in the movie Blade. Mark Sherry then asked Mallorca Lee supply his unique vocals on it and the bands debut single ‘Operation Blade (Bass In The Place)’ entered the UK singles chart at number 5 in November 2000 and remained in the Top 20 for 10 weeks before eventually selling one million copies internationally.
Mallorca was at that time working on his own projects and record labels ( Red Monkey / Debunk ) with David Forbes; this was put on hold and both Mallorca and David contributed to the album “Hard Hop Superstars”.
After touring the album worldwide in 2001/2002 including gigging and recording with Chuck D and Professor Griff Mallorca and David left Public Domain in 2003 to continue with their various solo projects.
James Allan and MC Cyclone are still recording as Public Domain.
